Cost effectiveness of Cool roof coatings

One of the studies based in Hyderabad in 2011 demonstrated that with the projected annual increase of new roof construction in the next decade, annual cooling energy savings due to solar roof coatings on concrete roofs would be 13-14 Gigawatt hours and cumulative cooling energy savings would be of 73-80 gigawatt hours.Dr Konpacki and Akbari’s estimations suggest energy savings of 3.6 kWh/1000 sq ft could be achieved in large retail stores in Austin,Texas using cool roof coatings. Dr Parker’s estimates showed similar results for industrial units in Florida.

The reduced energy demands will in turn lead to less use of fossil fuels in electricity generation. One of the studies in Houston estimated that there is a possibility of CO2 reduction by 6-7% from reduced energy use in buildings.

Thus, it’s clear from these studies that cool roofs have many direct and indirect savings options almost everywhere- from residential complexes to industrial units.
